: What I did not understand is why I should upgrade from CKermit (191).
: The post from Christine had a lot of information but all I use kermit for is
: to telnet into different unix machines.
:
: It did not seem to me that a PM dialer is worth the cost. Please correct me
: if there are other advantages I'm missing.
Kermit-95 adds support for a large number of missing functions in the
VT220 emulation. And adds VT320, SCOANSI (for linux, SCO products),
AT386, Wyse, Televideo, Hewlett-Packard, Data General, and other
emulations.
It adds support for automatic recognition of Kermit and Zmodem file
transfers and will auto-start transfers on the host from Kermit to the
host.
Additional TELNET protocols have been added including true Terminal
Type negotiation (5a(191) negotiated the name but didn't actually
change the emulation) and transmission of TELNET ENVIRONMENT variables
(USER, PRINTER, SYSTEM, ...).
Rlogin support has been added. Provides auto terminal size
notifications on many systems that don't support TELNET NAWS.
New capabilities to adjust the TCP stack (send/receive buffer size,
Linger, Nagle, and Keepalives) which are not possible any other way.
Scrollback buffers now support Bookmarks and Search capabilities.
The script language and file transfer are now at the C-Kermit 6.0 level.
The keyboard support has been completely redone. There are now over
300 Keyboard verbs. All key combinations may be assigned distinct
commands. All keymaps are now built-in. There is a special Emacs
keyboard mode for those who miss the Meta key.
Completely rewritten DIAL command and modem database that is as
powerful as Microsoft's TAPI.
Lots of miscellaneous changes:
. The emulator now supports real blinking in all emulations.
. The status line is host controllable.
. Margin bell support.
. Much more that I can't even think of.
And, of course, a completely rewritten copy of "Using C-Kermit" which no user
of C-Kermit should be without.
There are lots of improvements throughout the product. Many of which
are subtle. But they are there.
Kermit-95 for OS/2 comes with our superb technical support. You know
how good C-Kermit 5a(191) was when I was working on it as a hobby.
Just image how good it is now that it supported as a commercial
product. Kermit-95 for OS/2 has been in development ever since
C-Kermit 5a(191) was released. It is only just now that we have been
able to find a means to release it.
Purchase Kermit-95 for OS/2, you won't be disappointed.
